A hairy situation - Part II
Okay - I've been nervous about the thinning hair experience I had in my last major go-round. So, I've pulled out the NIOXIN and have started using it again.
I've been feeling a slight thinning texture to my hair. After one-week though, this stuff seems to be combating the problem and helping add volume and thickness to my hair.
Is it stimulating hair growth? I'm not sure - but hopefully it's staving off hair loss. That would not be good...
I learned about this product from my hairdresser who was also a Bernstein client years ago and recommended Nioxin. She swears by it. Little did I know that rapid weight loss causes hair thinning. According to the Nioxin website (see http://nioxin.com/en-US/the-causes-and-the-facts-page.aspx?id=236)
This stuff is not cheap though - the Scalp Therapy, Cleanser and Scalp Treatment (the triumvirate of power for follicle stimulation) is around $50 (if memory serves.)
It's a pleasant concoction though - tea tree oil, peppermint and other "stuff" makes it alright. It's not too medicinal, but I do ad a little bit of leave-in conditioner to soften my hair. Otherwise my hair feels a little like straw.
So, if you wish to help stave off any rapid hair loss along with your rapid weight loss, I highly recommend this product.
And sorry to the blessed soul who read my original post way-back-when and asked where to purchase this product. I didn't have the comments linked to my email, so I never responded. Mea culpa - how bad is that for a blogger!
I bought this at my salon in Gatineau, but please excuse my ignorance - it may be available in stores and online, but I'm not sure. http://nioxin.com/en-US/salon-finder-page.aspx Here's a link to the salon finder to see where's sold in a salon near you.
Here's to showering with a friend! Get your mind out of the gutter people...I mean Nioxin. *pfft*

There are many other factors that can contribute to thinning hair, but hey, a 20lb per month drop is an inevitable contributor.

I have been reading your blog and love your insights and theories. I too am a Dr B patient....today Sat April 14 2012 is my 5th day on the program and I am pretty stoked. I've lost 5 lbs as of weigh in day yesterday and three shots down. I know my body does better at protein then on carbs (hence the need to lose 30 lbs.). I don't know if you are still going to blog but I wanted to let you know that you are a wealth of information and I thoroughly enjoyed your blog. Hope you are holding on and working towards your own goal. I also hope you continue to blog as there are very few Dr B bloggers and reading the experiences you and others are having on this program makes it easier knowing I am not alone. Most of my friends and family are very angry with me doing this program but as they say, nothing tastes as good as skinny feels! Hope to see you back blogging again soon.
