Heading into the holidays.

What a great feeling - I had four messages on my Facebook account this week alone from folks saying they're reading my blog and looking to join the program. Glad to see folks are stopping by! Sit down - stay awhile. I'll pour you a glass of my lemon/water/Splenda mix and we'll chat. It's been almost two months since my last entry, and wow, I'm still 140 give or take! Today I'm up to 144 - but I did have a few glasses of wine on the weekend at my husband's company Christmas party, and I did partake in the dessert table - not much, but a little nibble. However, with my lean and mean intake today, I'll be down to my fighting self tomorrow again. So as I've learned through maintenance, when you eat some sugar or some carbs (pasta, potatoes, corn and other yummy starches) go for a brisk walk or dance, or those evil doers will go straight to your fat cells. My doctor at the Bernstein clinic confirmed that today as well, so beware in the Maintenance danc...

Post-diet impacts

Well, it's been a month of "maintenance", and things are going well. While I didn't last long on the Bernstein-sanctioned program approach - opting instead for my own Portion.And.Calorie.Control method - I am staying the course at 140. I must say that I do need to get back to the meal tracking and CalorieCount.com data inputting, to make sure I stay on track. As I'm reflecting on the diet though, and meeting up with others here in Ottawa who have also done the program, I've noted a few things. Decreased Potassium I've heard from some that they are experiencing some ongoing "cold" sensations. Cold hands and feet. Perhaps due to the decreased potassium intake, one lady theorizes. I can't say that I noticed that until today. My hands are little ice cubes, and I'm dressed quite warmly. No signs of a cold coming on either...strange... Cramping What I have experienced is daily foot and leg cramping, which I attribute to the decreasing of ...

Well entrenched in Maintenace

Well, it's been a little while since posting. I've been busy - trying to adjust to Maintenance. I must admit, I've been creating my own mini-maintenance plan. It's a little mix of Bernstein, the Alkaline/Acid diet, portion control (1200 to 1400 calories) and a little of me (which is more like the deviant naughty side...) So far over the last two weeks I'm maintaining 141 lbs (give or take.) What I keep having to remind myself is to maintain some of the Bernstein principles - protein every 4 hours to maintain blood sugar levels, and load up on vegetables. However, I'm testing the Maintenance theory with a blend of my own food "allowables." Here's the skinny, as it were.... Protein I'm starting to explore some of the other protein options that I didn't use much during the strict diet, but probably could have. I'm making protein smoothies (using Bernstein Vanilla protein sh...
